In retrospect, 2015 was a year consumed by tragedy and unrest in the world, but there’s at least one positive statistic that it can boast. This year, the Loch Ness Monster made a comeback.

For whatever reason, Nessie has been spotted more this year than she has been in the past decade. I would like to think that this resurgence had something to do with my recent dive into the myth of this creature, but that’s probably not the case.

The Official Loch Ness Register recently told the Daily Mail that five sightings of the creature have occurred this year, which happens to be a “vintage year” for those who are interested cryptozoology.

Five may not sound like a high number, but considering the fact that there were zero sightings of Nessie back in 2013, this is basically like winning the Super Bowl for Loch Ness believers.

Tourist Connie Ross was one of the five people blessed with a glimpse of Nessie. She snapped a video of this bizarre shadow lurking beneath the water’s surface.

Another tourist named Crystal Ardito didn’t notice that she had taken a picture of the creature until months later while she was going over her vacation photos.

As exciting as this is for cryptophiles, the truth is that five supposed sightings doesn’t mean much. Far more sightings were reported a few decades back. Some speculate that this is due to the increase of boat traffic and the decrease of fish in the lake. Still, some are hopeful that this is the beginning of Nessie’s return to the spotlight.
